The Charcot Fund has an annual budget of € 125,000 earmarked for fundamental research activities capable of improving the treatment of multiple sclerosis.

The Jury of the Charcot Fund is composed of six members, including three members from the Charcot Foundation Scientific Committee and three members from the Board of the Belgian Society of Neurology.
It is responsible for selecting the recipients of financial assistance on the basis of the applications submitted to the Charcot Foundation every year.

Since it was set up, the Charcot Foundation has financed fundamental research activities in Belgium for a total amount close to € 2.4 million.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Belgian Study Group on Multiple Sclerosis ("Groupe Belge d'Etude de la Sclérose en Plaques" - GBESP), which set up the Charcot Foundation 20 years ago, it was decided to award a grant of €50,000 to a young Belgian researcher, Roeland Buckinx from Hasselt University to enable him to follow a training programme in a foreign research establishment specialising in the area of MS. The training may involve laboratory research (biology, immunology, physiology, etc.) or clinical research (diagnostic methods, treatments, etc.).

In accordance with its statutory aims, the Charcot Foundation is thus making a valuable contribution to research on MS in Belgium, particularly in the area of treatment.
