Rather than solely safeguarding our well-being, the immune system can occasionally malfunction, exemplified by autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS). Our earlier discoveries suggest that irregular processing of lipids contributes to immune cell dysfunction in MS. Despite this insight, the molecular mechanisms at play remain elusive. In this investigation, our primary objective is to decipher whether the binding of lipids to proteins, so called protein S-acetylation, regulates the aberrant functioning of immune cells in MS. Furthermore, we endeavor to assess the potential therapeutic implications of this knowledge, aiming to advance innovative treatment strategies for MS.
