Coronavirus and multiple sclerosis

The Charcot Foundation refers to the general information on the Belgian health authorities' website: https://www.info-coronavirus.be/fr/.

The Charcot Foundation agrees with the opinion of the Belgian Multiple Sclerosis Study Group concerning the current coronavirus problem, namely:

To date, and for as long as necessary, this means for people with MS:

1. Preventive advice given to the general population must be applied even more strictly by people with MS, especially if they are treated with immunomodulatory drugs.

2. The following tips apply for people who are treated with immunomodulatory medications:

- Interferon-beta (Avonex®, Betaferon®, Rebif®), glatiramer acetate (Copaxone®), teriflunomide (Aubagio®), dimethyl fumarate (Tecfidera®), fingolimod (Rebif®), fingolimod (Gilenya®), natalizumab (Tysabri®): treatment is continued

- Ocrezumab (Ocrevus®), cladribine (Mavenclad®), alemtuzumab (Lemtrada®): contact your neurologist to find out if the planned administration will continue

3. People with MS who are on immunomodulatory therapy and who have contracted coronavirus contact their neurologist and stop their treatment.
