In 2015, the Charcot Foundation strengthened its support for the fight against MS with three initiatives:

  • Seven fundamental research projects will receive more than 220,000€ in grants
  • The new president, Prof. C. Sindic, launches the interuniversity “Charcot Chair”
  • The first MS patient registry will be updated on an ongoing basis

With Professor Dr. Christian Sindic (UCL) as the new president, who recently took over from the late founder Professor Richard E. Gonsette, the Charcot Foundation is organizing this year not only for the 27thth both the awarding of traditional grants to Belgian researchers for research projects exploring new ways in the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS), but also launching the “Charcot Chair”, which will allow all the universities concerned to organize once a year a scientific day dedicated to this disease. At the same time, every effort will be made to develop the first Belgian register of MS patients who are starting a new treatment: BELTRIMS (Belgian Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis). This initiative of the Belgian Multiple Sclerosis Study Group asbl, financed by the Charcot Foundation, is highly appreciated by patients and doctors, and even by INAMI.
