Cellular Aging: An Underestimated Player in the Pathology of MS

Did you know that advanced age is a major risk factor for developing the progressive form of MS? Scientists increasingly understand what happens at the level of our cells as we age and how we can target this therapeutically. In this research project, Dr Slaets, Prof Hellings and Prof Bogie of Hasselt University are using innovative techniques, preclinical models and unique MS brain samples to study cell aging in MS patients. Moreover, the team aims to therapeutically target cell aging to slow down or halt disease progression in MS.
