Charcot Fund: fundamental research

Targeting the paracaspase Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue 1 (MALT1) for the treatment of MS

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. We recently demonstrated a crucial role for the protein ‘mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue 1’ (MALT1) in T cell activation and the early priming phase of EAE, the main animal model for MS, suggesting that the development of specific inhibitors targeting MALT1 might prove useful for the treatment of MS. With the granted project, we would now like to validate new MALT1 small molecule inhibitory compounds in vivo in the EAE model of MS.
